Wellness Care for Senior Dogs and Cats
Wellness care for Senior Dogs and Cats 8 Years or Older
We love your aging companions and want their senior years to be as healthy and happy as possible. The size and breed of your dog will have a lot to do with his life expectancy, but in general all dogs are considered a senior at age eight (the “golden age”). Due to advancements in medical care, dogs and cats are living longer than they ever did before. When your dog and cat reaches the golden age, the aging process increases and more frequent exams and tests are needed to help detect early warning signs of health issues and to monitor existing health conditions.
As your pet reaches the golden years, there are a variety of conditions and diseases that they can face, including weight and mobility changes; osteoarthritis; kidney, heart, and liver disease; tumors and cancers; organ failure, hormone disorders such as diabetes and thyroid imbalance; and many others. Just as the health care needs of humans change as we age, the same applies to pets. It’s critical for you to work closely with us to devise a health plan that is best for your senior pet.
We offer senior pet care for dogs and cats. The doctors will want to see your dog and cat twice a year. They recommend chest x-rays, blood work, Osteoarthritis exam and other tests to give your pet the best care. If your pet is on chronic medications the doctor recommends twice a year diagnostic screening.
Please call us today for a senior pet care exam if your dog or cat is 8 years or older.
